Meet Mark Christopher
Mark Christopher has a Master’s Degree in Wildlife Ecology and has been a professional wildlife biologist and wetland scientist for over 35 years. While that may seem quite a long time, he has been carving decorative wood pieces for nearly 50 years. As a teenager Mark started woodworking in school creating decorative pieces of white pine and teaching himself how to use a variety of power tools while learning the art of hand tools. Consider a 13-year-old, getting excited about using a band saw and asking his high school shop teacher to use a table saw, which did not happen! These humble projects ignited a lifelong passion for woodworking. Mark continued to advance his skills as a woodcarver and by his mid-twenties he was competing in woodcarving shows up and down the East Coast. He has won numerous awards and accolades including world titles for his life-sized and miniature bird carvings. Being named a world class bird carver didn’t slow Mark’s passion for creating and working out of wood. He took all his experience as a woodcarver and applied it to carpentry, renovating a civil war era home and making small furniture pieces for friends and family. Most recently, with a desire to create more decorative and artistic pieces, Mark began experimenting with wooden utensils, beginning with spoons, spatulas, cheese knives and spreaders. With an audience and new customers Mark added to his inventory with the creation of charcuterie boards, cutting boards, sushi boards and pizza wheels all with the same attention to detail and artistic flare that earned him the title of world-class carver.
When not in his workshop creating you can find him gardening, hiking, playing the piano, oil painting or building on to his G Scale Model Garden Railway.
